Wooden toys made by Channapatna artisans in India. We scaled from 5 to 30 toys in 2.5 months, working directly with craftspeople and learning about their process to inform ours.
Technical drawings didn't work. Artisans in Channapatna don't read English specs. We made visual docs with color-coded annotations and 3D renders they could follow without text.
Each toy was built keeping in mind a kid's safety in different parts, so kids could mix and match and make new versions from the same toy. It made for more dynamic play rather than static play.
The goal was always to keep the Channapatna craft style at the very core of our designs while also delivering a modern and learning-based toy that would appeal to parents.
All our toys had to be eco-friendly and convey an eco-message. They are created by hand using wood from sustainable trees and natural colorings from the roots, bark, and leaves of native plants.
